about the blogger

I began writing Kayla's Life Notes after I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in March 2009 at the age of eighteen.

The notes started as 'notes' on Facebook to let all of my friends and family know what I had been up to and what diabetes was all about.

I have been writing since that day I was out of the hospital.

This blog has become my diabetic therapy and I am very grateful to have it.

I am currently wearing a Medtronic 630G Insulin Pump.

I use the Freestyle Libre System.

I am the creator and leader of a group called "T1 Empowerment" for teen girls living with type 1 diabetes, that meets weekly.

I am the founder & co-admin to Type 1 Diabetes Meme Page

I am a motivational speaker.

I am a past International Diabetes Federation Canadian Young Leader. I completed two leadership training courses in Melbourne, Australia and Vancouver, Canada.

I have climbed Mount Kilimanjaro with a group of type 1 diabetics from around the world. This climb was in partnership with World Diabetes Tour and was filmed.

I graduated from Fanshawe College with a Liberal Studies Diploma and the University of Western Ontario with a B.A in English
